'understand through compassion,
otherwise you will misunderstand the times'
"For it is in giving that you shall receive..." - St. Francis of Assisi
SEVA/Community Service
In 2012, Bernice became involved in My Friend's Place, a drop-in Resource Center serving over 1,700 homeless youth (ages 12 to 25) and their children each year. This organization's primary goal is to lower traditional barriers to service and provide homeless youth with the opportunity to improve their psychological, intellectual, and physical capacity to reach their potential.
Feeling called to serve, Bernice formed a group called "The Ladies Who Make Lunch" with seven of her friends, combining their passion for cooking and mothering. Together they serve two hot, home-cooked meals a month to the homeless youth.
In October 2013, "The Ladies Who Make Lunch" were honored with "The Volunteers of the Year" Award by My Friend's Place.
